Kulu-Manali-Rohtang Pass

Our next Journey was Kulu-Manali.

Kulu:

We started from Chandigarh at 7 am and reached Kulu close to 4:30 pm. Kulu is famous for its shawl with geometrical patterns and vibrant colour. This place is surrounded by mountains, river. The weather here was pleasant. We stopped nearby woollen handicrafts for a break and we got a chance to see how woollen sweaters and shawls are woven. Stalls for hand and machine made sweaters and shawls were put up in upstairs for sale. On the way to Manali many tourists shop here. After shopping we had a tea break and left for Manali.

Manali:

We reached Manali at 8 pm and the climate was chill. We were allotted a small room with dim light and given Razaaee (Quilt). We went for shopping to nearby marketplace and purchased a beautiful craft which we loved and later went for window-shopping. After this we returned to room and had our dinner. We were informed by the guide to be early in the next morning to visit Rohtang Pass so that we could avoid traffic. In the morning we were thrilled to see the snow cap mountain from our room through window.

Rohtang Pass:

This was our most romantic day in the trip. It was a trip to Rohtang Pass (it is on the eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas) with marvellous natural landscape. This place is sure to fascinate every one. We were divided into group of 6 per vehicle and started at about 6:30 in the morning. We both were seated in the front. The Rohtang Pass is about 51 kms from Manali. It is one of the highest mountain passes at a height of 3978 meters. Driver drove the jeep very fast even at the edge of the road which scared us. We passed through the Beas Rivers. On the way we hired fur sweaters, gloves, boots, stick for rent. We had our breakfast at 9 am. The roads were filled with snow and on the way we saw the place where the film Roja was shot. Our fun filled sports started as soon as we reached Rohtang Pass at 10 am as we were given only an hour time. We were very much excited ;) at the sight of this picturesque mountain covered with snow. We tried most of the sports available there like Skiing, Snow Tube Mobling and Snow Sledging. We reached the place where the river Vyas originates and had our darshan inside the cave. Outside this cave huge heart shaped carving on the snow with the word Honeymoon was embossed on it. On seeing this we were overwhelmed with joy and took some snaps . We enjoyed each and every minute in fun filled sports activities. We left the place at 11:30 am and headed to Manali. While returning, we saw lots of vehicles coming from Manali towards Rohtang pass. We were lucky enough as we were not caught into the traffic. On the way back, we stopped near Beas River and had corn to munch and passed some time near the river.

Hadimba Temple:

We then proceeded to Hadimba temple. This is one of the ancient temples and is especially dedicated for Devi Hadimba who is the wife of Bheem, the second son of Pandavas. The speciality of this temple is, this is built in wooden structure in Pagoda Style. Outside the temple there were many people renting local Kulu dress. We dressed in Kulu style and had our pictures clicked. Then we returned to hotel and had Lunch.

After Lunch we went to nearby market around Tibetan monastery to hang out. We purchased Tees which had a beautiful embroidery work and returned to hotel and took some rest.
